Note that if you trade your Pikachu with someone, it will cease to appear on the map screen. Like in the TV series, Pikachu doesn't like to rest in a Poké Ball and prefers to follow you around at all times.
While this may seem like a limitation at first, it actually adds the ability to get all three Blue/Red starters ( Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle) into your party - without any trading or cheating.
Of course, one of the biggest differences that you'll notice right off the bat is that you don't choose your starting Pokémon. While most of the puzzles and locations are exactly the same as in the predecessors, certain plot elements and characters in Pokémon Yellow have been altered to more closely match the Pokémon TV show.
